Statement Of US Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner
The US Department of the Treasury today released the following statement from Secretary Tim Geithner regarding the Senate’s failure to end debate on the nomination of Richard Cordray to be director of the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau:
“Americans deserve the full protections signed into law under Wall Street reform. The longer the Senate fails to confirm Richard Cordray to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the longer they will be denied that protection.”

European Banking Authority Announces Final Capital Requirement For European Banks
The European Banking Authority (EBA) has announced the size of the capital buffers European banks should have next summer. The new requirement may be calculated without the transition regulations, which means that Swedish banks no longer need to contribute new capital.

ICAP, the world’s leading interdealer broker, raised a record £12.75 million (US$20 million) worldwide on its 19th annual Charity Day, held yesterday. This brings the total amount raised through the ICAP Charity Day, which started in 1993, to £89.35 million.
