- WSE has taken part in the Polish-British Forum in London which discussed Polish-British co-operation within the European Union
The Polish-British Forum Strengthening business relations within EU and worldwide - Seizing the Opportunity: Partnerships for Growth took place in London on 21-22 May 2014. The event was devoted to Polish-British economic co-operation within the European Union. The Forum featured a series of meetings and discussions on co-operation in the capital market, innovations (including the energy sector), infrastructure, trade and investments as well as the outlook of co-operation in non-EU markets.
Speakers at the opening panel of the Polish-British Forum Taking full advantage of the Single Market, now and in the future included Paweł Graniewski, Vice-President of the WSE Management Board. The discussion focused on the benefits of European Union membership for both countries, the Polish and British experience in building a single market, and the opportunities of further co-operation between the two countries.
“Since Poland’s accession to the European Union, European and global capital market participants have paid increasing attention to Poland. Today more than a half of the total turnover on the exchange is generated by foreign investors, of which ca. 60% comes from financial institutions in London. The EU’s Single Market has facilitated both foreign investment in Poland and Polish investment abroad. The best example is WSE’s investment in Aquis Exchange, the pan-European multilateral trading facility in the UK. It is a forward-looking investment which opens an opportunity of business expansion of the exchange into new segments,” said Paweł Graniewski, Vice-President of the WSE Management Board, at the panel discussion.
The speakers at the debates during the first day of the Forum under the motto Celebrating 10 years of Poland in the European Union included Lord Mayor City of London Alderman Fiona Wolf, Minister without Portfolio Kenneth Clarke, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Vince Cable, NBP Governor Professor Marek Belka, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Katarzyna Kacperczyk, Deputy Minister for Treasury Paweł Tamborski, Director UK Trade and Investment, British Embassy Warsaw Martin Oxley.
The Polish-British Forum was organised by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in London, the British Embassy in Warsaw, UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), City of London Corporation, the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency (PAIiIZ S.A.), PwC and Headlines Porter Novelli.
