The Stock Exchange of Thailand’s (SET) trading volume dropped in November in both securities and derivatives hit by concerns about European economies and Thailand’s flood crisis. However, the SET index edged up 2.11 percent in November from the previous month due to rises in technology, services, agricultural and food industry stocks.
Combined average daily trading volume of the SET and the Market for Alternative Investment (mai) was at THB 22.51 billion (approx. USD 726 million) in November, while daily trading volume of derivatives eased 23.56 percent from a month ago at 38,627 contracts.

Securities
- Market capitalization was at THB 8.16 trillion (USD 263 billion), up 2.17 percent from October, and market valuation of the mai was at THB 73.21 billion (USD 2.36 billion), up 10.92 percent from the previous month.
- Combined average daily trading volume of SET and mai was at THB 22.51 billion, down 13.56 percent from a month ago. In the first eleven months, total trading volume increased 4.73 percent to THB 30.15 billion, up from a year earlier.
- Forward P/E ratio for the SET was at 11.73 times, up from 11.21 in October, while mai’s forward P/E ratio rose to 9.31 times from 8.63 in the previous months.
- Dividend yield of the SET was at 3.68 percent at end-November and mai’s dividend yield was at 2.76 percent.
- Foreign investors sold a net USD 406 million in November, boosting the valuation of their net selling to USD 555 million since the start of this year. They accounted for 22.88 percent of the total trading volume in the first eleven months, compared with 18.40 percent in 2010.
- The SET index rose 2.11 percent month-on-month as at the end of November. Since the start of this year, the index has fallen 3.62 percent, in line with declines of other markets in the region.
- Listed companies raised funds through equity worth a combined THB 2.45 billion in November. Of the number, THB 2.26 billion was raised via initial public offerings, and THB 186 million through the secondary market.
Derivatives
- Average daily trading volume fell 23.56 percent to 38,627 contracts in November, down from the previous month, with volumes of most products declining in the month. However, average daily trading volume of SET 50 Index Futures and Single Stock Futures in the first eleven months still rose compared with the whole of 2010.
- Trading volume of commodities futures (which are gold, silver and crude oil) in the night session accounted for 40.23 percent of the total trading volume of these products.
