The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) joined with Muang Thai Life Assurance Co., Ltd, PTT PCL, and Kasikorn Bank PCL to hold Young Financial Star Competition 2010 (YFS 2010), open to university juniors, seniors, and graduate students not over 25 years of age to become champions in personal finance and investment planning. YFS 2010 is to prepare contestants for careers in the capital market. Students can win scholarships and overseas training programs worth over THB3.4 million (approx. USD117,000).
“The Young Financial Star Competition has been held for eight consecutive years so that university students could show their potential and capability in financial management and investment from different perspectives,” revealed SET Executive Director, Market Education Center, Punsak Vejanurug.
“Through these years, the SET and its alliances hold different activities to promote understanding of and expertise in financial planning, investment, and insurance, including corporate social responsibility to over 20,000 participating students. The activities have helped build effective securities professionals, which will result in long-term capital market development,” said Mr. Punsak.
There are 4,339 students applied for YSF 2010, of whom 308 have passed the first round. They will participate in training courses and practice tests during the next rounds, and join other activities to enhance their understanding and learn about careers in the financial market. The program started from October 2010 through January 2011.
In addition to the four alliance partners, the competition is supported by the Capital Market Development Fund Foundation, Thai Financial Planner Association, Association of Securities Companies, SET’s Thailand Securities Institute, Money Channel and website settrade.com.
