Highlights include:
- The Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 began the month strong, with the S&P 500 closing at an all-time high on April 2nd (1891). Following some turmoil in the equity markets, both the DJIA and S&P 500 ended the month up less than 1%. DJIA closed the month at an all time high (16581). Volatility ticked lower as the S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures index closed the month down 5%.
- Energy led among the 10 sectors of the S&P 500, gaining 5%. The Utilities sector was a close second for the month and retained its position as the strongest performer year to date (15%). Consumer Discretionary and Financials were the laggards for the month, declining 1% and 2%, respectively.
