Osaka Securities Exchange Co., Ltd. (OSE) announced today that it has won a Futures and Options World (FOW) Award for Asia 2012 from FOW, a global derivatives magazine. OSE's Nikkei Stock Average Volatility Index (Nikkei 225 VI) Futures received an award for "Most Innovative New Contract Launch by an Exchange - Equities and Index," in the category of Exchanges and CCPs, at the awards ceremony held on September 18, 2012.
Nikkei 225 VI Futures was launched on February 27, 2012, and became available for trading by retail investors from May 28. Nikkei 225 VI is an indicator showing the degree of expected fluctuation in the Nikkei Stock Average, and it tends to rise when future fluctuates are expected to be larger. Nikkei 225 VI often rises sharply in cases where a serious incident or a large-scale disaster occurs, which makes the product receive increased recognition among Japanese and international investors as a useful hedging instrument for a risk of a decline in Japanese stock prices.
In receiving the award, Michio Yoneda, President & CEO of OSE, said, "We are very honored that Nikkei 225 VI Futures are recognized as innovative and leading-edge. This product is appreciated by domestic and foreign investors as a powerful hedging tool under circumstances where market uncertainties increase. We continue to improve the attractiveness of this product."
