Today, 3rd July, the European Parliament voted in favour of the EU Commission proposal to clarify the Emissions Trading Directive for the purposes of backloading (the ETS clarification proposal).
Reacting to the outcome of the vote by the European Parliament on the proposal, Lithuanian Minister for the Environment Valentinas Mazuronis stated that the Presidency acknowledges the results of the vote in Plenary and is ready to engage with the European Parliament in a constructive dialogue with a view to an agreement at first reading.
“The Presidency is confident that the two co-legislators will rise to the task and deal with the issue effectively and expeditiously, thus enhancing the stability and proper functioning of the carbon market,” said Minister Mazuronis.
