KVH Co. Ltd., Asia’s leading information delivery platform headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, today announced it has extended the features and support of its security services portfolio to meet growing customer demand throughout Asia Pacific for effective security services that protect against today’s broadening range of cyber attacks, data loss, data theft, and web application security threats.
The services enhanced are KVH Managed Firewall, a firewall service providing protection from external attacks, KVH Managed Intrusion Detection System (IDS) / Intrusion Protection System (IPS), and KVH WebScan®, a web application penetration testing service. In order to manage and support this expanded range of services, KVH will offer a Security Operation Center (SOC) that delivers 24 x 7 multilingual support for the entire KVH security services portfolio.
All KVH security services will be offered as part of KVH’s information delivery platform, consisting of a range of managed IT, data center, and network services that can be seamlessly integrated into customized solutions to meet customers’ specific needs.
Enhancement of KVH Managed Firewall
From today, KVH Managed Firewall services will provide support for Cisco ASA firewalls, as well as the existing support it offers for Juniper SSG technology. This will provide enterprise customers a broader range of highly reliable firewall options and enable dual-layer firewall configurations that leverage different technologies for optimal data protection.
KVH Unified Threat Management (UTM) is being launched as an additional protection service that can be enabled on the Juniper firewall as a license-based subscription service. This UTM offering includes Deep Packet Inspection (DPI), Anti-virus filtering, and Web-content filtering features to provide a total solution that protects at several layers against potential attacks.
Enhancement of KVH Managed IDS/IPS
KVH Managed IPS will cover support for HP TippingPoint IPS throughout Asia Pacific in addition to its current IBM Proventia Network IDS/IPS support services in Japan. This expands the scope of IPS customers that KVH can support throughout the region, while providing more options for multinational customers seeking these services and support in several locations.
Start of KVH WebScan Services in Japanese
KVH WebScan, a web application penetration testing service that detects vulnerabilities in web applications from known attacks and provides reports from a third party’s perspective has until now has been available in English only. This service has been enhanced to include a Japanese online portal, as well as bilingual support services in Japanese to address high demand in the Japanese market. KVH is also running a free KVH WebScan trial campaign for new customers from today until August 30, 2013.
The KVH WebScan online portal site is the main point of contact for customers leveraging the service and can be easily accessed via the Internet, eliminating the need for any hardware or software installations. By providing the service with a Japanese user interface, Japan-based customers can easily complete all processes in their local language, including ordering, scheduling, and viewing reports.
According to “Internet Security Threat Report, Volume 18,”[1] a recent study conducted by Symantec Corporation, 50 per cent of all targeted attacks in 2012 were aimed at businesses with fewer than 2,500 employees, and the largest growth area for targeted attacks was businesses with fewer than 250 employees. Furthermore, 53 per cent of websites were found to have unpatched, potentially exploitable vulnerabilities, in comparison to 36 per cent in 2011. Of these, 24 per cent were deemed to be critical, with the most common vulnerability found to be cross-site scripting. This demonstrates the growing range of existing security threats, which is leading to an increasing demand among businesses of all sizes and industries for total security solutions that protect their data from today’s various security attacks, as well as future-proof them against potential new threats.
“We are seeing strong customer demand for more sophisticated security solutions that cover a broader range of threats and security attacks. Particularly, with the growth of cyber attacks and the evolving use of technology, including the growing adoption of BYOD models and social media, there has clearly been a rapid increase in the scope of security vulnerabilities over the last 5 years,” explained Yoshiyuki Hamada, Vice President, Systems and Technology, KVH. “Our security services are tailored to ensure they meet the specific needs of our customers, while also providing the highly skilled resources to manage and monitor these services 24 x 7 to reduce customers’ total cost of ownership and enable them to focus on their core areas of business.”
“We are pleased to be further enhancing our offerings to ensure our customers from all industries can leverage best-in-breed infrastructure and managed security services,” said Ted Higase, President and Chief Executive Officer of KVH. “As a key part of our information delivery platform, our security services can be integrated with our network and managed services offerings to address the particular needs of each customer, and we will continue to build and enhance these services to ensure we are providing the most effective and high performance products in the market.”
