The International Securities Exchange (ISE) today reported average daily volume of 4.1 million contracts in July 2009.
Average daily trading volume for all options contracts decreased 10.9% to 4.1 million contracts in July as compared to 4.6 million contracts during the same period in 2008. Total options volume for the month decreased 10.9% to 90.6 million contracts from 101.8 million contracts in the same year-ago period.
On a year-to-date basis, average daily trading volume of all options decreased 1.2% to 4.08 million contracts traded as compared to 4.13 million contracts traded in the prior year. Total year-to-date options volume through July 2009 decreased 1.9% to 595.5 million contracts from 607.0 million contracts in the same period last year.

ISE's market share statistics continue to be negatively impacted by trading strategies that are permitted based on a non-economic rationale. These strategies include dividend trades and synthetic short interest trades. These trades temporarily inflate and distort trading volume and market share when transacted.

- On July 9, 2009, ISE announced that it enhanced its suite of options education tools with the launch of FX Options TV in partnership with Trading Central, a leading provider of independent financial research, and its media affiliate, New York Financial Press (NYFP).
