BM&FBOVESPA is hosting the 6th International Financial and Capital Markets Conference over August 29-31. The biennial event takes place in the town of Campos do Jordão (São Paulo state) with the objective of promoting debate on macroeconomic themes and on global financial market scenarios, including opportunities and risks within the current scenario of possible economic recovery. Among other matters to be debated are Brazilian exchange rate and interest rate prospects, the social role of investments and innovation; and portfolio and real estate fund management in Brazil. The Conference puts Brazil on the map of large international events on finance.
At the event, BM&FBOVESPA CEO Edemir Pinto will receive some of the world’s most influential experts on the matters under discussion, for presentations and discussions. The experts include Thomas Sargent, 2011 Nobel Economics Laureate, who will speak about monetary policy models; former Goldman Sachs Asset Management Chairman Jim O’Neill, who invented the BRICs acronym in reference to growth opportunities in the emerging countries of Brazil, Russia, India and China, and who will talk about the opportunities and risks of economic recovery; and Luis Stuhlberger, Managing Director of Credit Suisse Hedging-Griffo Asset Management, who will give his thoughts on portfolio management in Brazil.
Robert Shiller, the Yale University Sterling Professor of Economics famous for having predicted the financial crises of 2000 and 2008, will look at the current challenges regarding definition of the social role of investment and regarding financial innovation. From the US, Jim Rogers will share his vast experience as an investor and his vision about Asian markets. Christopher Dodd, US Senator from 1981 to 2011, will speak about the Dodd-Frank Bill, which reformed regulation of the US financial system.
During the panel session on the economy, Persio Arida, former Governor of the Central Bank of Brazil, Alexandre Schwarstman, Managing Partner at Schwartsman & Associados Consultoria, and Monica Baumgarten de Bolle, Managing Partner at Galanto – MBB Consultoria, will respectively give lectures on interest rates, the exchange rate and inflation.
Claudio Haddad, president of Insper Instituto de Ensino e Pesquisa, and Ricardo Paes de Barros, Undersecretary of the Office for Strategic Affairs of the Presidency of Brazil, will take part in the panel session on the challenges of education and development in Brazil. Gustavo Franco, chief strategist of Rio Bravo Investimentos, will look at the development and future of real estate funds in Brazil. The Country Director of Google Brazil, Fábio Coelho, will take part in a luncheon address with guests, where he will speak about the reality of the hyper-connected consumer.
On the final day, also attending and speaking at the Conference will be Leonardo Pereira, the Chairman of Brazil’s Securities and Exchange Commission, Alexandre Tombini, Governor of the Central Bank of Brazil and Pedro Parente, Chairman of the Board of BM&FBOVESPA.
A stage for important debates about global markets, the Conference’s previous five editions brought together important figures from the worlds of international politics, economics and finance. They include Nobel Economics Laureates Robert Engle, Edmund Phelps, Myron Scholes, Paul Krugman and Robert C. Merton; former IMF Managing Directors Rodrigo de Rato y Figaredo, Raghuram Rajan, Stanley Fischer and Anne O. Krueger; former President of Brazil Fernando Henrique Cardoso; former Central Bank of Brazil Governor Henrique de Campos Meirelles; as well as Robert Skidelsky, Michael Pettis, Nassim Taleb and others.
