In this issue of InvestEd Intelligence, the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) explains why financial planning is key in meeting one’s investment objectives, weathering market turbulence and avoiding financial hardship.
This issue highlights the differences between investing and financial planning, which investors often fail to realise. Investing – only one element of financial planning – means putting money into a financial product and expecting it to yield positive returns, while financial planning is the process of setting, planning, achieving and reviewing one’s life goals through the proper management of finances. The article also gives practical pointers on what one needs to know when investing and managing his/her finances.
In this issue’s “Sounding Board” column, SFC Chairman Dr Eddy Fong explains the Investor Education Centre’s role in financial consumer education in Hong Kong. He also notes that it will involve the broader community and address financial management issues across all financial sectors.
The “Choosing Wisely” column gives an account of the key risks and features of investment-linked assurance schemes, highlighting questions about product features, fees and charges, risks and sales commission investors should ask at the point of sale.
The September’s “IE Activities Planner” draws audience’s attention to a series of investor education videos broadcast along MTR lines and on buses started September as well as a series of investor education seminars to be held in mid-October.
The September issue marks the last edition of InvestEd Intelligence as the SFC’s investor education work will be carried out by the IEC to be established in the fourth quarter of 2012.
