A monthly update by With Intelligence, a provider of investment intelligence for alternative assets, private markets, and public funds, provides a focused look at April's activity, given the significant market volatility experienced during the month.
Highlights from the April report:
Hedge Funds Attract $3.9bn in Net Capital Inflows:
Global hedge funds recorded their fourth consecutive month of inflows, accumulating $3.9 billion in net capital during April. Year-to-date inflows now stand at $22 billion, marking a significant milestone—this is the first time since March 2022 that 12-month rolling asset flows have turned positive. Notably, long/short equity strategies saw the largest share of inflows for the month.
Performance Holds Steady Amid Market Turmoil:
Despite April's broad market sell-off, hedge fund performance remained largely flat. Equity, digital assets, and macro funds delivered the strongest results, while CTAs, relative value, and fixed income/credit strategies lagged behind. Additionally, CTAs and fixed income/credit funds experienced their first net outflows of the year in April.
Multi-Strategy Funds Lead in Investor Interest:
Multi-strategy funds have emerged as a standout, with two-thirds of funds in the With Intelligence database reporting net inflows this year—the highest rate among all primary strategies.
