As it enters the half year, the FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index recovered some ground in May, but is still well up on the same time last year.
The Index*, which aims to reflect market sentiment and is a key indicator of the exchanges’ performance, saw a 2.1 per cent increase in May 2014.
Commenting on the Index which closed up at 29,233.09 on 30 May 2014, compared to closing on 30 May 2013 at 26,368.47, Herbie Skeete, Managing Director, Mondo Visione and Co-founder of the Index said:
“Moscow Exchange performance comes on the back of an exceptional Q1 which saw record trading volumes. The exchange has been renewing its infrastructure, migrated to T+2, and implemented new laws on clearing, exchanges, insider trading and listing.”
The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index best performer by capital returns in US dollars was Moscow Exchange with a 26.8 per cent increase in share price from 30 April to 30 May 2014. The next best performer was Japan Exchange Group with a 21 per cent increase over the same period.
The FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index worst performer by capital returns in US dollars was CBOE with a 5 per cent decrease in share price from 30 April to 30 May 2014. This was followed by Romania’s Bursa de Valori Bucuresti SA with a 4.2 per cent decrease over the same period.
