In April, the trading volume on the EEX Spot Market for Natural Gas amounted to 1,153,431 MWh (GASPOOL and NCG market areas) compared to 619,420 MWh in April 2010. The volume included 681,687 MWh traded in the Within-Day Gas product. The Spot Market price for the day-ahead delivery of Natural Gas ranged between EUR 19.80 per MWh and EUR 27.00 per MWh.
The volumes on the Derivatives Market for Natural Gas (GASPOOL and NCG market areas) amounted to 637,686 MWh (April 2010: 4,793,436 MWh). On 29 April 2011, the open interest was 21,157,308 MWh. On 29 April 2011 Natural Gas prices for delivery in 2012 were fixed at EUR 26.99 per MWh (GASPOOL) and EUR 27.02 per MWh (NCG), respectively. In January, EEX launched the European Gas Index (EGIX). The last monthly average value for EGIX Germany, which constitutes the reference price for the delivery month May 2011, was fixed with 23.71 Euro/MWh on 28 April 2011.
On the EEX Spot Market for CO2 Emission Allowances (EUA) a total of 1,320,000 EUA was traded in April. The volume included 120,000 EUA traded on the secondary spot market (April 2010: 3,850,493 EUA) and 1,200,000 EUA from the primary market auction. During the month, the Carbix (Carbon Index) ranged between EUR 15.96 per EUA and EUR 16.60 per EUA.
The total volume on the EEX Derivatives Market for CO2 Emission Allowances amounted to 5,188,000 EUA. The volume included 2,908,000 EUA traded on the secondary derivatives market (April 2010: 2,095,000 EUA) and 2,280,000 EUA from the primary market auction. The 2011 MidDec future contract settled at EUR 17.14 per EUA on 29 April 2011, and the 2012 future contract at EUR 18.00 per EUA.
In April, Deutsche Lufthansa Aktiengesellschaft, Cologne, became a new trading member on the Spot and Derivatives Market for Emissions. Moreover, Positive Equity Limited, Dublin, was admitted for trading on the Derivatives Market for Power andEmissions as part of the EEX-Eurex co-operation. In addition, Noble Clean Fuels Ltd., London, registered for exchange trading on the EEX Spot Market for Natural Gas in April.
