In April, the trading volume on the EEX Spot Market for Natural Gas amounted to 619,420 MWh (GASPOOL and NCG market areas) compared to 186,240 MWh in April 2009. The volume included 251,308 MWh traded in the Within-Day Gas product which was launched on 1 March 2010. The Spot Market price for the day-ahead delivery of Natural Gas ranged between EUR 10.20 per MWh and EUR 18.00 per MWh.
The volumes on the Derivatives Market for Natural Gas (GASPOOL and NCG market areas) amounted to 4,793,436 MWh (April 2009: 615,865 MWh). On 30 April 2010, the open interest was 12,132,797 MWh. On 30 April 2010 Natural Gas prices for delivery in 2011 were fixed at EUR 18.43 per MWh (GASPOOL) and EUR 18.50 per MWh (NCG), respectively.
On the EEX Spot Market for CO2 Emission Allowances (EUA) a total of 5,050,493 EUA was traded in April. The volume included 3,850,493 EUA traded on the secondary Spot Market (April 2009: 672,481 EUA). During the month, the Carbix (Carbon Index) ranged between EUR 12.63 per EUA and EUR 15.48 per EUA.
The total volume on the EEX Derivatives Market for CO2 Emission Allowances amounted to 4,375,000 EUA. The volume included 2,095,000 EUA traded on the secondary derivatives market (April 2009: 1,123,000 EUA). The 2010 MidDec future contract settled at EUR 15.75 per EUA on 30 April 2010, and the 2011 future contract at EUR 16.18 per EUA.
