The European Energy Exchange (EEX) has officially established its presence in Norway today, with the opening of its Oslo office. This move further strengthens EEX’s presence in northern Europe while also offering “on the ground” support to its Nordic customers.
Heine Rønningen, who recently joined EEX will head up the Oslo office, which is located in the Aker Brygge district. “Heine Rønningen has long-standing experience and extensive know-how on the Nordic energy market. We are very pleased to welcome him to the Company“, comments Steffen Köhler, COO of EEX. Geir Reigstad, also an expert in the Nordic energy market, will continue to provide additional support as a consultant to EEX.
The EEX offering comprises financially settled power futures which are available for trading and clearing on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis. Additionally, through EEX membership, Nordic clients will get access to power products not only in in the Nordic region but also in Germany/Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and Romania. This offering is supplemented by the option of spread trading between different markets, e.g. the spread between the Nordic power market and the very liquid German Phelix Future. So far, a volume of 79,524 MWh has been registered in the new products and 46 trading participants have been admitted to trading in Nordic power products.
With the launch of the Oslo office, the EEX Group has now expanded its presence to 13 locations worldwide.
