Deutsche Börse Market Data + Services and the Sibiu Stock Exchange S.A. (SIBEX), Romania, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Under the MoU Deutsche Börse will provide trading technology to SIBEX to facilitate its plans to operate an exchange for trading electricity futures. This will include electronic systems and networks for trading, clearing and settlement of commodity products.
SIBEX is an authorised market and system operator in Romania operating a regulated derivatives market. The Romanian exchange plans to operate a regulated market for electricity derivatives using M7, Deutsche Börse’s leading trading system for commodity markets and part of Deutsche Börse’s “7 Market Technology” global IT architecture.
“We believe that our best-in-class technology and expertise in operating exchanges for various asset classes will strengthen SIBEX’s efforts in operating a regulated market for electricity derivatives. We are looking forward to working together closely with Sibiu Stock Exchange”, said Willy Suter, Head of Market Solutions, Deutsche Börse Market Data + Services.
“Given the recent developments aiming at an integration of the regional power markets, the partnership with Deutsche Börse represents one more step taken by Sibex towards becoming a significant regional exchange operator. We are confident that the Romanian brokers and power traders will benefit from the technology and expertise Deutsche Börse offers in the field of power futures trading and are pleased to be able to provide this opportunity to connect the national market with the regional and EU markets”, said Ovidiu Petru, SIBEX CEO.
The IT infrastructure of Deutsche Börse is more and more used by other stock exchanges, commodity exchanges and brokerage houses. Deutsche Börse provides trading technology for energy marketplaces, among others in emissions, power, iron ore, freight, fuel oil, paper and pulp.
Deutsche Börse’s “7 Market Technology” series currently comprises the T7 derivatives trading infrastructure, the C7 clearing system, the N7 network solution and the M7 multi-asset class trading service. Like T7, M7 offers users state-of-the-art technology, high speed and reliable connectivity and availability, as well as superior performance and a flexible front-end. Its versatile design allows the creation of applications and functionalities that are unique to a particular market structure or client base. Because M7 is hosted on Deutsche Börse’s servers, clients can benefit from using the system without investing in additional hardware or software, making it a truly cost-efficient option.
