As a result of trading on the MICEX Stock Exchange held 28 February 2007, the volume of transactions in securities amounted to 218.8 billion rubles (8.36 billion dollars). The main trading mode accounted for 104.5 billion rubles, negotiated deals accounted for 50.0 billion rubles, and REPOs accounted for 64.3 billion rubles. The volume of transactions in stocks (without REPOs) amounted to 140.4 billion rubles, bonds (without REPOs) accounted for 14.0 billion rubles, while equity REPOs and bond REPOs accounted for 39.8 billion rubles and 24.6 billion rubles correspondingly. This is the highest daily turnover reached over the whole history of trading on the MICEX Group’s stock market, which started in March 1997.
The previous record of 161.64 billion rubles was reached on 27 February 2007.
On 28 February, the MICEX Index, reflecting the behavior of prices on the Russian securities market, amounted to 1 655.25 points at the close, 1.6% less than the day before (the MICEX Index dropped by 2.3% against the end of 2006).
A record-high number of transactions, over 284 thousand, was effected in the course of trading on 28 February 2007.
The MICEX Stock Exchange is Russia’s leading stock market, where daily trading is held in shares and corporate bonds of over 550 Russian issuers, including shares in Gazprom, LUKoil, Surgutneftegaz, Sberbank, RAO UES, Norilsk Nickel, MTS, Tatneft and other blue chips. The number of participants in trading on the MICEX SE is 592 organizations. Of them 478 are admitted to trading (283 credit institutions and 195 non-credit institutions). In the first two months of 2006, the total volume of trading on the MICEX Stock Exchange has amounted to 1 963.52 billion rubles (69.6 billion dollars), which exceeds 3.4 times the volume of trading in securities in the same period of 2006 (578.98 billion rubles).
