Total number of listed companies on CASE in September 2006 decreased to 632 companies as opposed to 641 in the previous month.
There were four new listed companies this month, with a total capitalization of US$ 160 million (LE 919 million).
Turnover
Total number of trading days in September 2006 amounted to 20 days with total value traded of US$ 2,934 million (LE 16,872 million). Value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 2,766 million (LE 15,903 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 98.26%, 1.74% and 0.00%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 168 million (LE 969 million), which represents 6% of total value traded for the month.
This is in comparison to August 2006, when value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 3,794 million (LE 21,817 million), of which shares represented 97.77%, bonds 2.23% and funds 0.00%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to US$ 164 million (LE 942 million) i.e. 4% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached US$ 3,958 million (LE 22,759 million).
Total volume traded of listed securities market for this month reached 661 million securities.
During September 2006, 543,762 transactions were concluded with an average of 27,188 trades per day, as opposed to 681,260 transactions and an average of 29,620 trades per day in August 2006.
Indices
CASE 30 Price index, the official market index, witnessed a 3.4% increase in September 2006 to reach 6444.93 points and witnessed a 17.7% increase on YoY.
However, the Dow Jones CASE Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed a 3.1% increase in September, to close at 1437.34 points on 30/08/2006, and a 21.7% increase on a YoY basis.
Price Movements of Selected Shares
The five most active stocks represented 57.3% of the total volume of shares traded and 43.4% of total value of shares traded for the month.
During the month of September, the top five gainers, on the official CASE market, were (in descending order of price change) Extracted Oils (+113%), National Glass & Crystal Co. (+97%), Development & Engineering Consultants (+64%), Rakta Paper Manufacturing (+64%) and Nile Matches (+60%).
The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) Egyptian Starch & Glucose (-74%), Misr International Bank (MIBank) (-20%), Housing & Development Bank (-11%), National Housing for Professional Syndicates (-10%) and Egyptian Financial Group-Hermes Holding Company (-7%).
Market Capitalization
Total market capitalization of shares amounted to US$ 84.6 billion (LE 486.6 billion) as of end of September 2006 compared to US$ 80.3 billion (LE 461.5 billion) in August 2006, representing a 5.4% increase.
The bond capitalization recorded US$ 0.96 billion (LE 5.53 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 10.42 billion (LE 59.89 billion) for government bonds at the end of September 2006 (Including Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System).
Foreign Participation
In September 2006, foreign investors participated with 26.9% of the total market value traded with a net inflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 129 million (LE 739 million).
