Bolsas y Mercados Españoles (BME) has joined United Nations’ Global Compact and become a partner of the Spanish Network, in the Large Public Company category. This decision is another step forward in the company’s Social and Corporate Responsibility policy.
The UN Global Compact is an international initiative in the area of Social and Corporate Responsibility for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten basic principles of conduct in the human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption areas. The Global Compact network (http://www.unglobalcompact.org/) comprises over 8,000 corporate participants from 130 countries worldwide.
BME’s view of CSR is based on our commitment to companies, investors and all other parties involved in securities markets, including to society at large. In this regard, BME’s primary responsibility is constantly to strengthen the key attributes of a sound and efficient stock market: transparency, integrity, innovation, education and investor protection, especially protection of individual investors.
In the area of Good Governance, BME is now in compliance with nearly 90% of the recommendations of the Spanish Code of Conduct - Código Unificado.
BME is committed to supporting initiatives such as the Spanish CO2 emissions registry (RENADE), indices such as the FTSE4Good IBEX, and the support of the Carbon Disclosure Project on climate change.
