Antonio Zoido, Chairman of BME, was today appointed Chairman of the University of Extremadura’s Social Council. Mr Zoido took office during an event held in Mérida, Extremadura, which was presided over by José Antonio Monago, Chairman of the Extremadura Council. Also attending was Trinidad Nogales, Education and Culture Counsellor and the University of Extremadura Principal, Segundo Píriz.
Antonio Zoido will replace Angel Sánchez Trancón, one of the most renowned ophthalmologists at national level, who had been in office since 2007. Following the investiture ceremony the first meeting of the new Social Council took place.
The Social Council of the University of Extremadura is the collegiate body for the participation of society - though its different sectors - in the governance and administration of the University. The Council’s main mission is to value the relationship between the University and society.
Antonio Zoido has worked in the banking and stock exchange sectors. He has been Chairman of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE), the Federation of European Stock Exchanges (FESE) and the European Capital Market Institute (ECMI). He has also been a member of the International Accounting Standards Committee, the IASB predecessor. Last year he was appointed Trustee of the International Financial Reporting Standars (IFRS) Foundation Trustees, the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) supervisor. Antonio Zoido was born in Zafra, Badajoz, in 1944.
