NYSE Announces Nine-Month Results

The New York Stock Exchange reported revenues of $551.2 million and net income of $76.0 million in the first nine months of 1999, as compared with $540.9 million and $93.9 million in the same period a year ago.
For third-quarter 1999, revenues totaled $180.3 million and net income was $17.6 million, compared with $189.3 million and $30.0 million in third-quarter 1998.
Expenses were $416.5 million for the first nine months, compared with $375.3 million in the year-ago period, and $147.9 million in the quarter, compared with $136.4 million in the year-ago quarter.
In the first nine months of 1999, 106 companies joined the NYSE list, compared with 169 companies in the year-ago period. In third-quarter 1999, 33 companies joined the list, compared with 43 in third-quarter 1998.
Average daily trading volume for the first nine months of 1999 was 782.0 million shares, valued at $35.1 billion per day, compared with 654.4 million shares valued at $28.8 billion for the first nine months of 1998. For the third quarter, average daily volume was 744.2 million shares, valued at $32.0 billion, compared with 719.0 million shares worth $30.4 billion in the year-ago period.
