Equities
In April trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE amounted to €116 bn, which represents a 22% rise on the €95.19 bn posted the previous month and a 5.5% decrease compared to April 2007. The number of trades, the main indicator of stock market activity, was 2.8 million, up 10.5% from the same month a year earlier.
The trading volume from January to April totalled €499.21bn, down 7.7% from the same period in 2007. The number of trades during the same period was up 14.8% from a year earlier, at 13 million.
The trading volume posted by the ETF segment in April was €297.4 million, 16% up from the same month in 2007. The figure to April came in at €3.33 bn, up 182% from the same period a year earlier.
Futures and Options
In April Futures and Options trading came in at 7.1 million contracts, up 185% from the same period last year. It is worth noting the heavy trading activity in Futures on stocks, with 4.3 contracts and Options on stocks, with 1.5 million contracts and a 76% rise on the previous year.
The trading volume from January to April totalled 24.4 million contracts, up 83% from a year earlier. It is worth mentioning the heavy trading in Futures on stocks, with 12.8 million contracts and a 211% year on year increase and Mini IBEX Options, with 2.7 million contracts and a 65% annual increase.
Warrants and Certificates
The volume of warrants admitted to trading between January and April was 3,845, up 70% from the same period a year earlier. Trading volumes in April on the warrants and certificates market came in at €260 million and the number of trades was 46,452.
The trading volume to April totalled € 1.15 million, 26.4% down on 2007. The number of trades decreased by 15.9% during the same period to 223,108.
Corporate Debt
Corporate Debt trading in April came in at €160.09bn, up 110.5% from a year earlier. The trading volume from January to April totalled €492.12bn, up 37.4% from the same period a year earlier.
New issues in April came in at €49.5bn, up 7% from the same month a year earlier. The volume of new issues from January to April totalled €171.25bn, down 22.8% from the same period a year earlier.
The outstanding balance at the end of April was €788.39bn, up 20.6% from April 2007. Trading volume on public Debt in April was €7.84bn, which amounts to 70% of all the trading volume generated on domestic electronic trading platforms.
