Total number of listed companies on EGX in July 2008 increased to 380 companies as opposed to 375 in the previous month.
There were six new listed companies this month, with a total capitalization of US$ 53 million (LE 281 million).
Turnover
Total number of trading days in July 2008 amounted to 21 days with total value traded of US$ 5,593.80 million (LE 29,647.15 million). Value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 5,041.68 million (LE 26,720.91 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 94.15%, 5.85% and 0.00%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 552.12 million (LE 2,926.24 million), which represents 10% of total value traded for the month.
This is in comparison to June 2008, when value traded of listed securities amounted to US$ 7,634.20 million (LE 40,995.68 million), of which shares represented 96.26%, bonds 3.74% and funds 0.00%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to US$ 1,149.89 million (LE 6,174.90 million) i.e. 13% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading) which reached US$ 8,784.09 million (LE 47,170.58 million).
Total volume traded of listed securities market for this month reached 1,332.05 million securities.
During July 2008, 1,012,643 transactions were concluded with an average of 48,221 trades per day, as opposed to 1,353,558 transactions and an average of 61,525 trades per day in June 2008.
Indices
CASE 30 price index, the official market index, witnessed a 5.86% decrease in July 2008 to reach 9,251.19 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 12.21%.
Likewise, the Dow Jones CASE Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed a 5.97% decrease in July, to close at 1916.49 points 31/07/2008, and a 9.57% increase on a YoY basis.
Price Movements of Selected Shares
The ten most active stocks represented 49.21% of the total value & 62.40% of the total volume of shares traded for the month.
During the month of July, the top five gainers, on the official EGX market, were (in descending order of price change) Osool ESB Securities Brokerage (+3460%), Modern Company for Water Proofing (+155%), Namaa for Development and Real Estate Investment Co. (+128%), Egyptian Transport (EGYTRANS) (+33%) and Misr Cement (Qena) (+13%).
The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) Universal for Paper and Packaging Materials (Unipack) (-59%), Wadi Kom Ombo Land Reclamation (-45%), National Glass & Crystal Co. (-44%), Suez Canal Automotive Repair And Maintenance (-44%) and Ceramic & Porcelain (-41%).
Market Capitalization
Total market capitalization of shares amounted to US$ 143.5 billion (LE 760.4 billion) as of end of July 2008 compared to US$ 151.5 billion (LE 813.3 billion) in June 2008, representing a 6.5% decrease.
The bond capitalization recorded US$ 894 million (LE 4.7 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 15 billion (LE 80.4 billion) for government bonds at the end of July 2008 (Including Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System).
Foreign Participation
In July 2008, foreign investors participated with 27.93% of the total market value traded with a net outflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 110 million (LE 582 million).
Worth mentioning that the foreigners recorded a net inflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 31 million (LE 166 million) after excluding deals.
