The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) Monthly Statistical Report January 2011

Listing

Total number of listed companies on the listed securities market in January 2011 remained 212 companies as the previous month. Meanwhile, the number of listed companies on Nilex has reached 17 at the end of January 2011.
There were no new listed companies on the listed securities market this month. Meanwhile, one company was listed on Nilex, with a total capital of US$ 2.3 million (LE 13 million).

Turnover

Total number of trading days in January 2011 amounted to 18 days with a total value traded of US$ 4,087.92 million (LE 23,912.71 million). Value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 3,809.88 million (LE 22,286.30 million), of which shares, bonds and funds represented 82.22%, 17.78% and 0.00%, respectively. Unlisted securities i.e. Over the Counter trading reached US$ 271.84 million (LE 1,590.15 million), which represents 6.65% of total value traded for the month. Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 6.24 million (LE 36.26 million) during the month.

This is in comparison to December 2010, when value traded of the main market amounted to US$ 3,382.27 million (LE 19,633.72 million), of which shares represented 77.78%, bonds 22.22% and funds 0.00%. In addition, the OTC trading amounted to US$ 592.10 million (LE 3,437.06 million) i.e. 14.88% of total trading (on- and off-exchange trading), which reached US$ 3,978.80 million (LE 23,096.53 million). Additionally, Nilex has recorded a trading value of US$ 4.43 million (LE 25.74 million) during the month.

Total volume traded of the main market for this month reached 2,073.36 million securities. Meanwhile, the total volume traded of the OTC market has reached 333.89 million securities. Nilex has recorded a trading volume of 3.87 million securities.
 
During January 2011, 768,488 transactions were concluded with an average of 42,694 trades per day, as opposed to 749,290 transactions and an average of 35,680 trades per day in December 2010.

Indices

EGX 30 index, the official market index, witnessed an decrease of 20.94% in January 2011 to reach 5646.5 points and witnessed a YoY decrease of 16.42%.

Meanwhile, EGX 70 price index witnessed an increase of 25.55% in January 2011 to reach 537.17 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 28.15%.

Moreover, EGX 100 price index witnessed a decrease of 24.13% in January 2011 to reach 884.79 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 25.86%.

Additionally, the Dow Jones EGX Egypt Titans 20 index witnessed a decrease of 19.47% in January, to close at 1,234.30 points on 31/01/2011 and witnessed a YoY decrease of 13.26%.
On the other hand, the S&P/EGX ESG index witnessed a decrease of 18.36% in January, to close at 908.41 points and witnessed a YoY increase of 8.98%.

Price Movements of Selected Shares

The ten most active stocks in the main market represented 51.61% of the total value & 46.68% of the total volume of shares traded for the month.

During the month of January, the top five gainers, on the main market, were (in descending order of price change) Golden Textiles & Clothes Wool (+105%), Alexandria National Company for Financial Investment (+18%), Alexandria Mineral Oils Company (+12%), Bisco Misr (+9%) and Societe Arabe Internationale De Banque (SAIB) (+1%).

The top five losers were (in ascending order of price change) Egyptian Real Estate Group  Bearer Shares (-46%), Egyptian Real Estate Group (-41%), Arab Aluminum (-41%), Egyptian for Developing Building Materials (-41%) Advanced Pharmaceutical Packaging Co. (APP) (-39%).

Market Capitalization

Total market capitalization of shares in the main market amounted to US$ 70.04 billion (LE 406.92 billion) as of end of January 20111 compared to US$ 84.10 billion (LE 488.21 billion) in December 2010, representing an decrease of 16.65%. Meanwhile, Market capitalization for the companies listed on Nilex has reached US$ 171.47 million (LE 1.00 billion) at the end of January 2011.

The bond capitalization recorded US$ 1.16 billion (LE 6.8 billion) for corporate bonds and US$ 36.11 billion (LE 211.23 billion) for government bonds at the end of January 2011 (Including Treasury Bonds according to Primary Dealers System).

Foreign Participation

In January 2011, foreign investors participated with 34.44% of the value traded of the main market, with a net inflow of portfolio foreign investment totaling US$ 136.40 million (LE 797.89 million).
