The second CEE IPO Summit will take place on 30-31 May 2012 in Warsaw. Guests at the event – potential securities issuers and global investors – will participate in panel discussions concerning Europe’s economic dilemmas, investment in Central and Eastern Europe and the position of the Warsaw Stock Exchange amongst European capital markets.
“With a strong economy and developed capital market, Poland is the natural host for the CEE IPO Summit. In inviting capital market experts, WSE-listed companies and potential issuers to the event, we hope that the conference will be a forum for interesting discussion, knowledge sharing and networking,” says Polish treasury minister MikoĊaj Budzanowski.
Given the increasing role played by Warsaw in the global economy, this year’s conference will deal with issues reaching far beyond regional considerations. The keynote speech at the CEE IPO Summit– Europe’s Economic Dilemmas – a Chance for CEE Countries’ Economies– will be given by Jim O'Neil, a leading British economist who coined the term “BRIC countries”. This presentation will commence a series of panel discussions on the theme of Emerging Europe, with the participation of top names in European economics.
The first day of the conference will also see presentation of a report drafted by the Warsaw Stock Exchange on the development of capital markets within Emerging Europe, after which a debate on “whether dynamic growth of an equity market is in itself an argument for companies and investors” will be held. The day will end with a discussion on Investing in Emerging Europe (CEE, Russia, Turkey) –similarities and differences from the viewpoint of foreign investors. The debate will include insight from representatives of institutional investors active in the region.
Warsaw Stock Exchange – the leader in European IPOs by volume
Consistently strengthening its position as regional leader, the WSE continues to outperform other developed markets throughout Europe in attracting new capital and securities issuers. Against the backdrop of a difficult year for global markets, 47%* of all European IPOs in 2011 took place right here in Warsaw (source: PwC, IPO Watch Europe, Q4 2011). A total of 203 companies floated on both Warsaw Stock Exchange equity markets last year (Main Market and NewConnect), giving it the leading position in Europe by volume. In terms of value, the WSE ranks third in Europe, with €2.2 billion raised in 2011.
“With the WSE’s growing position in global finance, listing in Poland is an increasingly attractive way for foreign issuers to raise growth capital. 2011 saw the highest share of foreign companies within all IPOs on the WSE Main Market (12 out of 38). I hope that this positive trend will continue in the future thanks to the CEE IPO Summit,” says Ludwik Sobolewski, President and CEO of the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
Workshops for potential issuers – second day of the conference
Numerous workshops and presentations are planned for the second day, with topics reaching beyond IPOs to other methods of raising capital available to potential issuers on the WSE. Representatives of Poland’s Ministry of Treasury will share their experiences of the privatisation process, joined by executives at privatised companies and investors taking part in these transactions. This year will also see two specific panel discussions dedicated to the Romanian market. These will be attended by representatives of the Romanian government and potential Romanian issuers.
“The second CEE IPO Summit is two days of important and interesting discussion on topics central not just to CEE but to the whole of Europe. High quality debate and outstanding guests mean that the conference is also an excellent opportunity to promote the Polish capital market. We hope that CEE IPO Summit will become a significant event among key conferences relating to European capital markets,”adds Iwona Sroka, President and CEO of the National Depository for Securities.
CEE IPO Summit is co-hosted by the Warsaw Stock Exchange, the National Depository for Securities and the largest investment banks and law firms advising on IPOs and other transactions on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The event is supported by Poland’s Ministry of Treasury, the City of Warsaw and the National Museum in Warsaw.
CEE IPO Summit is an event for guests from around the world. At the end of May Warsaw will become Europe's centre for discussion on the economy and capital markets.
