NYSE Euronext offers its sincerest condolences to the family of Jean Peterbroeck, former Chairman of the Brussels Stock Exchange and Board member of NYSE Euronext, who passed away on Friday 27th May 2011.
As chairman of the former Brussels Stock Exchange from 1987 to 1993, he demonstrated immense vision and foresight when he engineered the first computer trading system in Brussels in 1989 and launched the BEL 20 in 1991 changing the face of the Belgian market.
Jan Michiel Hessels, current Chairman of NYSE Euronext commented, "We will always remember him as an exceptional board member and we are proud to have been able to honor Jean Peterbroeck in March this year when we celebrated the Stock Exchange's 20th anniversary in presence of the Minister of Finance, the President of the EIB as well as the top representatives of all BEL 20 companies. An initiative which will always be linked to him".
Duncan Niederauer, Chief Executive of NYSE Euronext added, "As father of the BEL 20, he will always be remembered for his pioneering spirit and immense optimism. All the staff at NYSE Euronext send their sincerest condolences to his family."

We are very thankful for what he did and wish his wife, his two daughters and his grandchildren the strength to overcome this cruel loss."
