What you need to know:
- Nasdaq® is updating its bandwidth recommendations for select proprietary data feed products to reflect recent traffic trends.
- Nasdaq is advising firms to increase bandwidth allocations for the affected proprietary data feed products:
Why is Nasdaq updating its bandwidth recommendations?
Nasdaq provides bandwidth recommendations for its proprietary and managed products at the request of the market data community. Periodically, Nasdaq reviews and updates its bandwidth recommendations to reflect message traffic trends and expected system changes.
What are the bandwidth recommendations for Nasdaq data feed products?
Based on its review process, Nasdaq is increasing the bandwidth recommendations for the following proprietary data feeds:
Data Feed Name | Current Bandwidth Recommendation (per data center connection) | Updated Bandwidth Recommendation (per data center connection) | Network Protocol Options |

Please refer to the Nasdaq Bandwidth Recommendation document for the full Nasdaq product list.
Please note that Nasdaq bandwidth recommendations are based on one-second peak message rates. Firms may wish to use a higher bandwidth allocation than the recommended amount if they are sensitive to sub-second data peaks.
Does Nasdaq throttle its proprietary data feeds to the stated bandwidth rates?
The answer varies based on the data feed and protocol option. As outlined on the Data Feed Specifications page, Nasdaq supports multiple delivery options for its proprietary data feed products. Nasdaq offers both SoupBINTCP and MoldUDP64 versions of its proprietary order, quote and trade data feeds.
SoupBINTCP is based on the TCP/IP network protocol suite. Because the protocol assures guaranteed delivery, Nasdaq data rates are throttled at the port level so as not to exceed the customer-specified bandwidth allocation.
MoldUDP64, which is based on the UDP/IP network protocol suite, does not have the same network limitations. With the exception of the Nasdaq Level 2 and Nasdaq TotalView-Aggregated products, Nasdaq does not apply data throttles to its proprietary MoldUDP64 data feeds.
When do I need to upgrade my Nasdaq bandwidth allocations?
Nasdaq issues only bandwidth recommendations. It is up to each data feed customer to manage network configurations as they see fit. Because Nasdaq data feeds may burst higher in the sub-second, customers are encouraged to analyze their own network usage statistics when making a bandwidth purchasing decision.
Does Nasdaq offer any other insights into its message traffic rates?
Nasdaq currently provides peak message rate statistics for the UTP SIP and Nasdaq proprietary data on an end-of-month basis. Please refer to the Nasdaq peak message traffic rates document on the Nasdaq Trader® website.
