The Foundation for Investor Education, the nonprofit affiliate of the Securities Industry Association (SIA), and TheStreet.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: TSCM), a leading provider of financial commentary, analysis, research, news and ratings, today announced they have formed a partnership to provide online investor education resources to millions of American students on TheStreet University section of TheStreet.com's free Web site: www.thestreet.com.
Since 1977, the Stock Market Game Program (SMG), administered by the Foundation, has reached more than 10 million students, grades four through 12 across all socio-economic backgrounds nationwide. The program uses online, real-time research and news to establish a mirror of the actual marketplace and the popular and innovative “InvestWrite” national essay competition to teach core competencies and critical skills in subjects such as math, economics and business, while focusing on the importance of long-term saving and investing.
Under the agreement the SMG program will now include links to TheStreet.com market commentary and quote pages, while dedicated links from TheStreet.com’s educational pages will deliver information, news, and SMG program and InvestWrite enhancements for students, teachers and parents to the Foundation’s Web site: www.stockmarketgame.org.
“Today, students spend more time than ever conducting research online,” said Donna C. Peterman, the Foundation’s chairman and senior vice president, PNC Financial Services Group. “This partnership is a perfect fit. The Foundation and TheStreet.com will accomplish more together for teachers and students than either of us could alone.”
Just as TheStreet.com is a pioneer in providing investment information on the Internet for all levels of investors, the Foundation is nationally recognized for educating Americans on intelligent investing regardless of their level of investing experience.
“We are pleased to be able to take part in laying the foundation of investment education for students as early as the fourth grade,” said David J. Morrow, the editor-in-chief of TheStreet.com. “Partnering with Foundation for Investor Education expands our free educational content offerings through TheStreet University, making us an appealing resource. We hope this partnership will encourage even more students to continue to build their financial knowledge toward securing their financial futures.”
