In March, the trading volume on the EEX Spot Market for Natural Gas amounted to 902,593 MWh (GASPOOL and NCG market areas) compared to 292,970 MWh in March 2009. The volume included 432,523 MWh traded in the Within- Day Gas product which was launched on 1 March 2010. The Spot Market price for the day-ahead delivery of Natural Gas ranged between EUR 8.50 per MWh and EUR 14.70 per MWh.
The volumes on the Derivatives Market for Natural Gas (GASPOOL and NCG market areas) amounted to 4,650,300 MWh (March 2009: 901,640 MWh). On 31 March 2010, the open interest was 10,094,427 MWh. On 31 March 2010 Natural Gas prices for delivery in 2011 were fixed at EUR 14.98 per MWh (GASPOOL) and EUR 15.08 per MWh (NCG), respectively.
On the EEX Spot Market for CO2 Emission Allowances (EUA) a total of 2,840,652 EUA was traded in March. The volume included 1,340,652 EUA traded on the secondary Spot Market (March 2009: 523,548 EUA). During the month, the Carbix (Carbon Index) ranged between EUR 12.48 per EUA and EUR 13.26 per EUA.
The total volume on the EEX Derivatives Market for CO2 Emission Allowances amounted to 3,563,000 EUA. The volume included 713,000 EUA traded on the secondary derivatives market (March 2009: 1,199,000 EUA). The 2010 MidDec future contract settled at EUR 12.86 per EUA on 30 March 2010, and the 2011 future contract at EUR 13.28 per EUA.
