The European Energy Exchange (EEX) is pleased to announce that, in its capacity as the Transitional Common Auction Platform, it will also auction emission allowances for Poland for a transitional period. A corresponding contract has been concluded between EEX and the Republic of Poland.
Poland has chosen an auction procedure of its own (“opt-out”). Therefore, the Polish auctions will be held separately from the EU auctions, which EEX also carries out on behalf of the European Commission and of 24 Member States.
In 2013, a total of 51,249,500 EU allowances (EUAs) is scheduled to be auctioned on the EEX Spot Market on behalf of Poland. The total amount of EUAs will be spread evenly across 14 auctions. Starting on 16 September 2013, the Polish auctions will be held on a weekly basis on Monday afternoons at 3 pm CET, with a two-hour bidding window open from 1pm to 3pm CET. All dates and volumes are available in the EEX Auction Calendar which is published on the EEX website.
The Polish Ministry of Environment has appointed the Institute for Environmental Pro- tection/the Centre for Emissions Management (IOŚ-PIB/KOBIZE) as the auctioneer for Poland which has been admitted and recognised as an auctioneer at EEX and ECC. More information about the auctioneer and auctioning in the third trading period can be found on the following website: http://aukcje.kobize.pl.
EEX will continue auctioning on behalf of Poland until a permanent Polish auction plat- form has been established. This is based on the precondition that EEX continues to operate as the EU auction platform.
