The European Energy Exchange (EEX) continues to extend its Trade Registration service on the Power Derivatives Market. Together with its clearing house, the European Commodity Clearing (ECC), EEX will offer the registration of power trading transactions concluded off the exchange for the Greek market for clearing from 1 December 2014.
“With the new Trade Registration service, we fulfill the request of those of our trading participants who are already trading financial power contracts for the Greek market area via broker platforms. Now, these trades can also be transferred to clearing on the exchange”, explains Peter Reitz, Chief Executive Officer of EEX. “This reinforces our leading position on the European energy market.”
The EEX offering will comprise financially settled month, quarter and year contracts which are registered on the exchange and cleared by ECC.
“Because of the physical connection between the Greek and the Italian power market, our entry into the Greek market is particularly interesting for customers who already trade Italian Power Futures on EEX”, adds Peter Reitz.
EEX launched its Trade Registration service for Italian power futures in October 2013. Because of the high customer interest, exchange trading for this market followed in April 2014. This year, 75 TWh have already been registered on EEX with the EEX market share on the Italian power market now exceeding 20 percent. In October, EEX also opened a sales office in Milan in order to ensure optimum support for the customers on site.
The European Energy Exchange (EEX) is the leading energy exchange in Europe. It develops, operates and connects secure, liquid and transparent markets for energy and related products on which power, natural gas, CO2emission allowances, coal and guarantees of origin are traded. Through its majority shareholding in Cleartrade Exchange (CLTX), EEX additionally offers the markets for freight, iron ore, fuel oil and fertilisers. Clearing and settlement of all trading transactions are provided by the clearing house European Commodity Clearing AG (ECC). EEX is a member of Eurex Group.
