In comparison, the Dow Jones Global Titans 50 Index, which measures the 50 biggest companies worldwide, posted a loss of 6.67%, closing at 170.87.
- The Dow Jones Islamic Market Asia/Pacific Titans 25 Index, which measures the performance of 25 of the leading Shari’ah compliant stocks in the Asia/Pacific region, decreased 7.81%, closing at 2023.27. The Dow Jones Asian Titans 50 Index, in comparison, posted a loss of 8.01%, closing at 127.20.
- Measuring Europe, the Dow Jones Islamic Market Europe Titans 25 Index, which measures the performance of the 25 of the leading Shari’ah compliant stocks in Europe, closed at 2092.20, a loss of 8.58%, while the conventional Dow Jones Europe Index loss 10.31%, closing at 250.05.
- Measuring the performance of 50 of the largest Shari’ah compliant U.S. stocks, the Dow Jones Islamic Market U.S. Titans 50 Index decreased, closing at 2224.23. It represents a loss of 5.38%. The U.S. blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 4.36%, closing at 11613.53.

Dow Jones Islamic Market Indexes versus Conventional Dow Jones Indexes
In August, the Dow Jones DFM Titans 10 Index, measuring the 10 largest and most liquid stocks listed on the Dubai Financial Market, closed at 2000.37. It is a loss of 1.45%.
The Dow Jones Islamic Market Kuwait Index posted a loss of 3.31%, closing at 840.43. Its conventional counterpart index, the Dow Jones Kuwait Composite Index, was down, closing at 204.90. It represents a loss of 3.52%.
The Dow Jones Islamic Market Turkey Index closed at 3040.92, a performance loss of 11.78%, while the Dow Jones Turkey Total Stock Market Index closed at 1049.06, a loss of 15.61%.
Measuring the performance of Shari’ah compliant stocks of five of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, the Dow Jones Islamic Market GCC Index closed at 1188.95, a loss of 2.47%. The conventional Dow Jones GCC Index was down 2.70%, closing at 1367.90.
Other Markets and Asset Classes
In August, the Dow Jones Islamic Market BRIC Equal Weighted Index decreased 9.89%. It had a closing value of 1958.24. By comparison, the Dow Jones BRIC 50 Index closed at 565.07, a loss of 10.11%.
The Dow Jones Citigroup Sukuk Index, which measures the performance of global bonds complying with Islamic investment guidelines, increased 0.43%, closing at 132.19.
The Dow Jones Islamic Market Sustainability Index, which measures sustainable practice business of companies respecting the Shari’ah laws, decreased 7.15%, closing at 2384.03. The conventional Dow Jones Sustainability Index loss 8.52% with a closing value of 982.37.
Global August 2011 Industries Winners and Losers
All DJIM Industry Indexes were down for the month of August. The three Dow Jones Islamic Market Industry Indexes posting the narrowest loss were Financials, Telecommunications and Consumer Goods with down performances of 1.08%, 1.76% and 3.55%, respectively.
The Dow Jones Islamic Market Oil & Gas, Dow Jones Islamic Market Industrials and Dow Jones Islamic Market Technology indexes were the three worst performing industry indexes with down performances of 10.48%, 8.75% and 7.69%, respectively.
