Protecting Our Economy Demands Adequate Capital And Margin Requirements For Security-Based Swaps By SEC Commissioner Luis A. Aguilar
One of the most important goals of Title VII of the Dodd-Frank Act is to reduce the risks posed by large, uncollateralized derivatives positions — not just the risks to the players in the market, but also the risks to the entire financial system, the broader economy, investors, taxpayers, and working men and women. To appreciate the significance of these rules, we only need to remember the desperate effort, and massive taxpayer support, required in 2008 to prevent insurance giant AIG’s huge exposure to credit default swaps from destroying that firm virtually overnight, imposing large losses on counterparties across Wall Street, and potentially triggering further panic and failures.

SEC Charges Hedge Fund Adviser And Two Executives With Fraud In Continuing Probe Of Suspicious Fund Performance
The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged a former $1 billion hedge fund advisory firm and two executives with scheming to overvalue assets under management and exaggerate the reported returns of hedge funds they managed in order to hide losses and increase the fees collected from investors.

Opening Statement At The SEC Open Meeting By SEC Chairman Mary L. Schapiro
Good morning. This is an open meeting of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Oct. 17, 2012.
Today we will consider proposing new rules that would establish capital, margin, and segregation requirements for security-based swap dealers and major security-based swap participants. We also will consider enhancing the capital requirements for the large broker-dealers that we have approved to use internal models in computing their net capital.

BME: One Out Of Four Spanish Listed Companies Generate 75% Of Their Sales Abroad - Foreign Sales Compensate Weaknesses Of Domestic Market
Sales generated by companies listed on the Spanish stock exchange totaled €264 billion in the first half of 2012, up 9.20% on the same period in 2011, according to a report by the Research Department of BME. Sales outside Spain increased 16% to €157.37 billion, representing almost 60% of total sales.
